On the evening of 6 May, a patient with a hantavirus infection was admitted to LUMC. Admission and care have proceeded as planned.
Hantavirus confirmed
It has been confirmed that the admitted patient has hantavirus. The patient has been informed and has given permission to share this information.
LUMC is providing all necessary support and care, and is taking full precautionary measures to do so safely. As always, LUMC does not share personal information about individual patients.
Well prepared
The ward where the patient is admitted is equipped for patients with serious infectious diseases. All precautionary measures are in place to prevent transmission, including isolation rooms and full protective equipment for staff. Treatment takes place under strict isolation protocols. LUMC has specialised isolation facilities and conducts regular training exercises to remain prepared for patients with potentially serious infectious diseases.
Safe to visit
Patients and visitors to LUMC are not at risk of infection. No additional measures are required. You are welcome to visit as normal.
