Research Technician Polycystic Kidney Disease

 Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC)

Are you interested in unravelling disease mechanisms with the aim of developing new therapies? Are you a research analyst with recent work experience in a research laboratory? Then read on!

Responsibilities

As a research technician in Human Genetics, you will be involved in the study of polycystic kidney disease. This disease is characterized by the formation of numerous fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys, ultimately resulting in kidney failure. To unravel the disease mechanism, mouse models, cell lines, and PKD-on-a-chip models with (tissue-specific) disruptions of the involved gene are used, along with molecular biological techniques, genetic techniques, and strategies for identifying medications. As a research analyst, you will be part of our team and investigate sub-questions of this research. Supporting organizational tasks are also part of your responsibilities.

Profile

  • You have completed a bachelor's degree in Higher Laboratory Education (HLO).
  • Demonstrable experience and affinity with cell culture, histo-/cytochemical analyses, molecular biological methods (DNA/RNA and protein analyses).
  • Initiative, motivation, precision, good organizational skills, and excellent communication abilities.
  • Experience with laboratory animals is a plus but not required.
  • Recent work experience in a research laboratory.

Offer

  • As a research technician, your salary ranges from a minimum of € 2,975 to a maximum of € 4,214 (scale 7M, CAO UMC). These figures are based on full-time employment.
  • This is a one-year contract, with the possibility of a permanent contract.

Other information

Your workplace

The Department of Human Genetics is a broadly oriented research department, led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Silvère van der Maarel. Research here focuses on genetic and epigenetic aspects of monogenic, multifactorial, and acquired diseases, and their translation into clinical applications. The department consists of 22 research groups, divided into four overarching research lines. Currently, there are about 220 (inter)national employees, ranging from professors and students to research analysts and research trainees.

You will work within the polycystic kidney disease research group, where several PhD candidates, students, an analyst, and post-docs collaborate on various sub-projects in different collaborative efforts.

  • Please provide the names and contact information of two references when submitting your application.
  • Applications from employment/recruitment agencies will not be considered.
