European Biomedical Image Analyst (1 fte)

Nikon recently inaugurated the Nikon Bioimaging Laboratory (NBIL) to support the development of next-generation therapeutics and to foster academic, clinical and diagnostic imaging innovation. Located in the prestigious Leiden Bio Science Park, the Bioimaging Laboratory aims to provide full imaging service solutions. The NBIL offers the latest microscope technologies to private companies and academic institutes, develops core skills in a wide range of sample preparation and microscopy imaging experiments, as well as increases the networking opportunities of its customers through similar communities across Europe.

Purpose

Currently we are looking to recruit a European Biomedical Image Analyst for Nikon Europe BV Healthcare Division (NEBV-HC). In this position, you will be the key person to develop imaging solutions for private companies and academic institutes. You will be responsible to deliver best-in class imaging pipelines to Nikon Healthcare Division and its customers.

The primary responsibility will be to identify what is required for effective image analysis, to develop analysis workflows and to provide feedback to the customers and Nikon’s staff in order to create an optimal readout of the experiments. You will supply imaging and analysis services in a biomedical setting as well as oversee the ongoing day-to-day operations at the NBIL.

Responsibilities

• Develop software workflows for NBIL’s customers, Nikon Europe BV and Nikon Branches for biomedical research applications
• Investigate the optimal solution by exploring various tools within NIS-Elements software and the available library of support resources to provide best customer experience
• Provide a solution to automate image acquisition and analysis, which ultimately benefits Nikon and its customers
• Provide feedback on assay development to global and European research and development and to application specialist teams
• Cooperate with Product Managers to provide a complete overview on assay development including competition analysis, positioning, techniques and applications
• Support Application Specialists and Product Managers for software demonstrations to enhance Nikon visibility
• Develop ideas for upcoming marketing trends regarding image analysis and prepare marketing activities

Profile

• A PhD or Master's degree in Biomedical Image Analysis, a data-driven life science, or a related field is required
• Knowledge of optics, lasers, and digital microscopy techniques
• Strong computer skills and well-founded biological knowledge
• Proficient in Machine Learning Algorithms, Python or C, MS Office (MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Outlook)
• Ability to create a problem statement, querying data, exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model creation and development, and result interpretation
• Fluent in data analysis and demonstrated ability applying digital imaging and analysis techniques in biomedical applications
• Understand biomedical research applications, assess customers’ needs, and provide the optimal solution in a timely matter
• Experience in providing high quality customer service, to ensure customer needs are met and expectations are exceeded
• Knowledge in microscopy software for both acquisition and image analysis. Experience in NIS elements is beneficial
• Ability to define, plan and work according to priorities and deadlines
• Strong attention to detail, accurate, organized and structured, but also flexible
• Project management skills
• Excellent organizational, communication and presentation skills
• Solid verbal and written communication skills (fluency in English required), other languages desirable, ability to communicate with people at all levels, good presenter
• Interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and interact with people from different cultural backgrounds
• Experience working in an international environment and ability to interact with people from various cultural backgrounds
