Imaging Specialist (Microscopist)

The Nikon BioImaging Lab (NBIL) is a Contract Research Organization (CRO) that provides microscope-based imaging and analysis services to the biotech, pharma, and larger research communities. The NBIL is equipped with industry-leading microscope systems and software solutions in order to provide full-service contract imaging, data analysis, and assay development. The NBIL is part of Nikon Europe BV and is located at Leiden Bio Science Park in Leiden, The Netherlands.

Purpose

We are currently hiring for the position of Imaging Specialist (Microscopist) to oversee the operation of advanced microscopy equipment, train clients, offer specialized imaging guidance, and promote the services of NBIL. As an Imaging Specialist, your key responsibilities will include designing experiments, generating reports, supporting microscopy applications, and engaging with potential clients and customers. You will be joining a small but dedicated team, working together to expand and enhance the capabilities of the NBIL facility.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate microscopes for customer projects, demo requests, and assay development
  • Provide training and demonstrations, ensuring understand how to operate microscopy equipment, follow protocols, and use imaging systems and analysis tools
  • Offer clients expert advice on sample preparation for imaging, imaging techniques, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with clients to design experiments and projects aligned with their scientific objectives and deliver high-quality results
  • Develop detailed protocols for experiments and generate scientific reports based on client-requested activities and results
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for information regarding microscopy products and applications, providing support to all stakeholders and users.

Profile

  • Post doc, PhD or MSc in Biotechnology field, Life Science or Physics
  • 5+ years of experience in using high-end microscopy techniques such as confocal, high-content screening, spinning-disk microscope or super-resolution.
  • Experience in designing, performing and analyzing biological experiments as well as proven record of image processing and analyses
  • Experience running an imaging facility/laboratory or being a constructive member of such, an organization/structure is preferred.
  • Cell culture and assay development experience
  • Project manager experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Well organized, structured and flexible with ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Experience in providing high-quality customer service, to ensure customer expectations
  • Experience working in an international environment
