The role of Inside Sales Manager (ISM)

To drive and support sales efforts in a given sales region/territory by implementing the sales/marketing strategies for services and reagents in that region/territory. The ISM will use his/her knowledge of science and business including corporate contacts to develop and deliver profitable initiatives and build sales in the assigned region/territory.

Responsibilities and Duties:

The ISM will be responsible for working with and supporting the Regional Sales Manager (RSM) and Sales Account Managers (SAM) to grow and develop GenScript services/products in an assigned sales region/territory.  The ISM will also work closely with the Technical Account Management (TAM) team, Project Management (PM) team and Marketing team to build the GenScript brand and to meet the team’s objectives (Sales Goals, Profit Goals, and KPIs).  The ISM will be responsible to back-up the Sales Account Managers while they are traveling or on vacation.  The ISM primarily serves as an inside sales and support person for the SAM and RSM as outlined below:

Duties include:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Regional sales strategies and tactics for services and products as required
  • Explore and develop new markets and new applications for current services/products
  • Work with the RSM, technical account managers (TAM) and Director of Sales to develop an action plan designed to secure business in a competitive environment
  • Responsible to understand basic selling techniques and develop customer needs and requirements by following the sales process to understand the customer’s research applications and matching their needs with GenScript services and products
  • Introduce GenScript to new potential markets in Industrial/Academic/Government organizations
  • Build and expand a business reference/referral network to help grow and develop new business opportunities
  • Distribution Channel management as directed by RSM/Director of Sales

Daily Activities include:

  • Contacting and qualifying Marketing Qualified leads, nurturing and routing them as appropriate to the respective sales manager
  • Follow up on quotes/proposals in order to win sales opportunities by overcoming business and technical objections and to cross-sell and/or up-sell GenScript services/products
  • Follow up with existing clients to expand our base business by cross-selling and/or up-selling

GenScript services/products

  • Generate new leads and opportunities by researching businesses via linked-in contacts, company web sites, Google and related directories and websites at universities and businesses
  • Maintain CRM records to assure accuracy of customer account records so they contain correct contact information
  • Occasional field travel as required which includes
    • Participation in conferences
    • Participation in local trade shows
    • Participation in seminars as needed
    • Customer visits as needed


  • Academic degree in scientific discipline, preferably Masters level or higher in the life sciences
  • Relevant Sales experience preferred with a high level of technical and professional expertise
  • Knowledge of the Biological and CRO market, with emphasis on Molecular Biology and Peptide chemistry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Strong  verbal  and  written  command  of  the  English  language.  Multi-lingual
  • Communication skills are a plus: (Mandarin, Spanish, Italian, French or German (French or German preferred)
  • Ability to solve practical problems and resolve customer issues that may occur
  • Ability to operate effectively and succeed in an international business environment
  • Must be self-motivated, driven and demonstrate a high level of energy with a sense of urgency
