Eu Talenton

From September 14, 2022 - 09:00 to September 18, 2022 - 18:00
Leiden

A brand new international event is in the making: in September the first ever EU TalentOn will take place in Leiden. This science-based multi-day challenge driven program is especially created for 104 selected young academics between the ages of 21 and 30, to be launched during this European Year of Youth. The EU TalentOn is an initiative by the European Commission in co-creation with Leiden2022 European City of Science, and aims to bridge the gap between young talent, science and industry. The quest for the young talented starts 17th May and a supporting campaign will run throughout the month of June. The deadline to apply to the EU TalentOn is July 1st.

About the event

EU TalentOn is a pressure cooker event challenging teams of highly motivated academics to work on grand societal problems, linked to the 5 EU Missions. Between September 14th and 18th 2022, an extensive program – fed by science, institutes and industry – is set up providing participants with everything needed to work on innovative solutions. The EU TalentOn offers selected participants an unforgettable experience, network and knowledge. The winning teams will be awarded with grand prizes. More information is provided on the website.

Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth explains: “As part of the European Year of Youth, we invite young talented researchers from all over Europe to join us in Leiden – European City of Science 2022 for the very first EU TalentOn. Events such as these are essential to promote careers in research and innovation and facilitates cross-border and cross-sectoral collaboration among early-career researchers, entrepreneurs and industry.”

EU missions

Each team will focus on a challenge related to one of the five EU missions. These novel tools of Horizon Europe support research to find responses to some of the greatest challenges we are facing today: fighting cancer, adapting to climate change, protecting the ocean, seas and waters, living in greener cities and ensuring healthy soil and food. Missions set clear goals to be achieved by 2030. They provide the right conditions and funding to enable researchers, innovators, policy makers, businesses and citizens to act together.

The EU TalentOn is supported by Horizon Europe Work Programme ‘Widening participation and strengthening the European Research Area’. All costs of participants, including travel, accommodation and mails will be covers. Early career researchers can apply to join the EU TalentOn until the end of June.
