PEPTALK | #Socials: The Hidden Influence of Social Media on Eating Disorders

The language of this event is Dutch.

Videos on social media that promote extreme unhealthy eating patterns. On TikTok, this exists under the recently banned hashtag #skinnytok. Although the videos may seem harmless at first glance, their content can unconsciously have a profound impact.

Tim Offringa, Psychiatry resident and  promovendus at LUMC Curium, will take a look at the impact of videos on the development, reinforcement, and potential recovery of eating disorders.

PEP Talks are short lunchtime lectures at LUMC. Each month, an LUMC researcher sheds light on an interesting and timely topic. Everyone is welcome to attend the talks. PEP stands for “patients and personnel,” as well as anyone else who is interested.
