Five early-career researchers have been awarded four-year fellowships under the LUMC Junior Principal Investigator (PI) Programme 2025. Each receives €850,000 to launch an independent research line within LUMC, with a strong emphasis on translating scientific insight into clinical application.
This year’s awardees include researchers working on personalised interventions for cardiometabolic diseases, new immunotherapies targeting B cells, brain waste clearance mechanisms, host–pathogen interactions, and chronic inflammation in IBD. The diversity of topics reflects LUMC’s focus on high-impact research that cuts across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
The programme is designed to accelerate the careers of talented postdocs by offering them full research independence, a formal PI status, and access to core facilities. It also strengthens LUMC’s position as a national leader in developing future scientific leadership. Each fellow will lead a small team and is expected to compete for follow-up funding through major national and international schemes.
The 2026 call is now open, and applicants are encouraged to align their proposals with LUMC’s strategic research themes.
