On Thursday 4 September, 125 first-year students of the Middelbaar Laboratoriumonderwijs (MLO) programme were welcomed to Leiden Bio Science Park. For the third year in a row, several CIV Bio Sciences partners opened their doors to receive the students during their very first week of school.
The walk across the park included stops at Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland, Talentmark, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine and the Foodlab of Hogeschool Leiden (BioPartner 1). Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, the students were able to gain a first impression of the professional field, and just as importantly, become familiar with the park where their own programme is based.
Along the way, Thijs Remijn of Leiden Bio Science Park enthusiastically introduced the students to the companies between Foodlab and Hogeschool Leiden, where the mboRijnland programme is housed. Although the day was less sunny than in previous years, the exchange proved more than worthwhile.
These future lab technicians now begin their studies with new experiences, a stronger connection to the field, and a warm welcome!
