Last night, Leiden Bio Science Park looked a little different. With colored lights in hand, we set out to illuminate the park—bringing visibility to the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease. How are you lighting up for rare?

Raising awareness isn’t just about making something seen—it’s about making it understood. Rare diseases impact millions, yet for many, the journey is filled with uncertainty, delayed diagnoses, and limited treatment options. By shining a light—both literally and figuratively—we aim to keep rare diseases on the agenda, where they belong.

A shout out to all the participating companies:

Leiden Bio Science Park Esther Peters BioPartner Leiden Rebekah Bikker Thijs De Kleer Kadans Science Partner Rob van Overbeek Biotech Training Facility Ronald Kompier Centre for Human Drug Research TNO Peregrion Steven Erpelinck, MBA Orfenix Vincent van der Wel NecstGen Tristan Pritchard-Meaker VICO Therapeutics B.V. These organizations contributed to the awareness initiative for Rare Disease Day through participation in the Leiden Bio Science Park light installation, the awareness reception at BioPartner buildings, and the video launch.

VICO & BioPartner are teaming up again this year to help raise awareness for Rare Disease Day. This day is all about generating change for the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease, their families and carers. This year, Rare Disease Day is on the 28th of February.

Join us today from 12:00 to 16:30 to raise awareness of rare diseases while enjoying something delicious from Leidsche Koeken and Het Leidse Winkeltje. Will we see you at the reception in BP1 or at the reception in BP5? Beware: op = op!

Our goal is to educate and inform all people working in the BioPartner buildings and beyond, of the wonderful work done by Eurordis and the affiliated patient organisations.

If you can’t make it today, please consider donating to the organization. Every donation in support of Rare Disease Day, strengthens the global rare disease movement. You can make a one time or monthly donation by the following link: https://donation.rarediseaseday.org/
