On June 1, 2025, the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) officially opened its Post-COVID Expertise Centre, strengthening its role in national efforts to understand and treat long-term effects of COVID-19. The centre is part of the Post-COVID Network Netherlands and serves patients with persistent symptoms that affect daily life, including fatigue, shortness of breath, and cognitive issues.
The centre brings together a team of pulmonologists, internists, psychologists, and physiotherapists, offering integrated care tailored to each patient’s needs. Adults can access the programme through referral from their general practitioner. Alongside clinical care, the centre contributes to research and knowledge development by closely collaborating with partners across the national network.
This dual focus on treatment and data collection makes the centre a critical link in the country’s long-COVID strategy. It also reflects LUMC’s broader mission to combine care and research, ensuring that medical progress directly benefits patients.
The centre is one of thirteen nationally funded initiatives and is supported by ZonMw and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
