The Netherlands will host the NATO Summit on 24 and 25 June 2025 at the World Forum in The Hague. To ensure the safe and secure transport of world leaders and delegates between Schiphol Airport and The Hague, extensive traffic and security measures will be implemented, significantly impacting road users in the Randstad region.
From Sunday afternoon, 22 June, through Thursday, 26 June, motorists should anticipate severe disruptions:
Motorways A4, A5, A44, N44, and N14: These routes will experience temporary and partial closures, including slip roads, flyovers, and tunnels.
Regional and Local Roads: Areas in and around The Hague, Wassenaar, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Haarlemmermeer, Leiden, and Rotterdam will be affected by closures and diversions.
Johan de Wittlaan in The Hague: This key thoroughfare is closed in one direction from Monday and will be entirely shut from 14 April to early August to accommodate summit preparations.
Emergency services will maintain access via secondary roads during this period.
Trains: National rail services will operate on their regular schedules but may experience increased passenger volumes.
Trams and Buses in The Hague: While most services will run as usual, routes passing through the vicinity of the World Forum will be suspended. HTM will provide real-time updates on affected lines.
Travelers using Amsterdam Schiphol Airport during the summit week should prepare for potential delays and increased congestion both at the airport and on surrounding roads.
Authorities advise the following to mitigate disruptions:
Avoid traveling in the Randstad region between 22 and 26 June.
Work from home if possible.
Refrain from scheduling appointments during these dates.
Steer clear of peak travel hours.
Opt for public transportation or cycling when travel is necessary.
Plan journeys in advance and stay informed on the latest traffic updates.
