Leiden, 8 January 2026 – Two scientific projects from Leiden University and LUMC have received funding from Open Science NL. The aim is to make science more accessible to researchers and society at large.
The projects are part of a total of 45 initiatives in the Netherlands receiving grants to strengthen open science. Open science is about freely sharing and making better use of scientific knowledge and data.
Research Data
The RetroFAIR project, led by Marian Beekman (LUMC), focuses on better organizing and making older biomedical research data accessible, so it can be reused. Ludo Waltman (Leiden University) is working on a new publication model in which scientific research is made publicly available first and then reviewed and selected. Both projects aim to promote open and accessible science.
Open Science NL supports both small and large projects. Projects like Beekman’s receive €250,000 in funding, while larger initiatives like Waltman’s receive approximately €1.5 million.
