TEDxBoerhaavedistrictStudio: A Walk in The Park

Welcome to 2022! The year we celebrate Leiden as the European City of Science, and also the year we bring you TEDxBoerhaavedistrictStudio.

The first stop of our virtual ‘Walk in the Park’ is the Lorentz Center.

How do you cross through boundaries of thought and habit? How do you stimulate people with different backgrounds and opinions, to share ideas and to adapt their attitude? Arjen Doelman kicks off our 2022 TEDxBoerhaavedistrictStudio series with his talk “Jamming like scientists”.

The development of pharmaceuticals is a hugely expensive and uncertain process. Jos Joore explains why and offers a possible solution for more efficient drug development.

The third stop of the virtual ‘Walk in the Park’ will be Stichting 2030 in the Boerhaave District of Leiden. Jasper Visser will be discussing ‘the power of art’.

Jasper is committed to promoting a better and more sustainable future. As director of Stichting 2030, he facilitates the strengthening of the Netherlands’ ‘bottom up’ infrastructure, helping people meet the important challenges we face.

The fourth stop of our virtual “Walk in the Park” is Hybridize Therapeutics.

CEO and healthcare innovator Eline van Beest explains why so few Dutch University ideas in the field Life Sciences ever reach a patient, and what we can do to improve this situation. Watch her TEDxBoerhaavedistrictStudio talk today.

The fifth stop of our virtual “Walk in the Park” is Leiden University in the Boerhaavedistrict of Gemeente Leiden. Dr Anthony Brown explains how we navigate our way through the Milky Way. The sixth stop of our virtual “Walk in the Park” is Elise Hovingh, PhD, working in the Boerhaavedistrict of Gemeente Leiden. Elise challenges us to embrace diversity and be open to different perspectives, because that is where the magic can happen.Watch her TEDxBoerhaavedistrictStudio talk today.

The seventh stop of our virtual “Walk in the Park” is the Naturalis Biodiversity Center, in the Boerhaavedistrict of Gemeente Leiden. Pasha van Bijlert studies how dinosaurs walked. In this talk he introduces us to Trix the T-rex, and reveals some fascinating facts about this exceptional animal.
