Algemene Rekenkamer (Court of Audit) visits LBSP

The Court of Audit visited LBSP to explore how science and entrepreneurship create public value, with stops at TNO, Peregrion, NTrans, and VarmX sparking discussion on biotech innovation.

Last week, Esther and Victor from the Leiden Bio Science Park organized a working visit for the board and directors of the Algemene Rekenkamer (Court of Audit). The program offered a close look at how science and entrepreneurship contribute to long-term public value.

The Algemene Rekenkamer is the Netherlands’ independent public audit office. It monitors how government funds are spent and examines whether this spending is effective and efficient.

The visit included conversations at several locations in the park. At TNO and its spin-out, Peregrion, the group discussed how tracer technologies are utilized in early-stage drug development. At NTrans Technologies, the team presented their approach to delivering genetic material into cells without using viral vectors. At VarmX, the focus was on biotech applications for blood clotting and wound care.

There was clear interest from the visitors throughout the day. The lab visits, in particular, sparked engaged discussions and offered a chance to see the practical side of this work up close.

We thank the Algemene Rekenkamer for their visit and all participants for taking the time to share their work. Bringing together science, public responsibility, and practical applications remains essential to improving healthcare.
