TechTalk- Women’s Health

The May edition of TechTalk at Leiden Bio Science Park was a reminder that women’s health is not a niche. It’s a vital priority for the future of healthcare. Hosted in collaboration with Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, the session sparked conversations that continue to resonate, shedding light on overlooked gaps and new approaches in science and medicine.

The event brought together experts across research, clinical care, and technology, all focused on advancing women’s health through smarter innovation and more inclusive thinking. From early human development and sex-specific cardiology to next-generation diagnostics and a new standard for birth care, the speakers challenged the status quo and emphasized the need for research that reflects real-world diversity.

Highlights included:

  • Veerle Michels (Amsterdam UMC) – on using 3D imaging to understand early human development

  • Jin A. (LUMC Women’s Heart Clinic) – on the urgency of sex-specific care in cardiology

  • Arianne van Koppen & Ruth van Veelen (TNO) – on developing a holistic, data-driven approach to women’s health

  • Oda Heerema-Snoep (LiGalli) – on their intravaginal MedRing, enabling targeted diagnostics and drug delivery

  • Alex Vernooij (Concord Neonatal) – on designing a “shock-free” birth for every baby

These conversations reminded us that progress happens when we ask the right questions—and truly listen to the answers.

We’re proud to create a platform for bold ideas and open dialogue, and we look forward to continuing this important conversation across the Park and beyond.
