TNO, Logick Energetics and InnoSer launch collaborative project on liver and brain health

A new research collaboration between TNO, Logick Energetics B.V., and InnoSer has officially kicked off at Leiden Bio Science Park, supported by a TKI-LSH grant. The partners will investigate how aging and obesity affect liver and brain health, with a specific focus on mitochondrial function.

As obesity rates continue to rise and populations age, healthcare systems face increasing pressure. Both aging and obesity are associated with chronic liver disease, cognitive decline, and neurodegeneration. A common thread in these conditions is metabolic dysregulation and chronic inflammation. These are factors that disrupt cellular energy balance, impairing both liver and brain function.

Mitochondria play a central role in maintaining energy balance at the cellular level, yet the impact of aging and obesity-related metabolic processes on mitochondrial function remains poorly understood. This collaborative project aims to fill that gap by:

  • Deepening scientific understanding of the mechanisms linking obesity, aging, and organ health;

  • Investigating mitochondrial function in liver and brain cells;

  • Exploring early-stage, proof-of-concept interventions.

The research partners bring complementary expertise to the table:
TNO, a Dutch organization for applied scientific research;
Logick Energetics B.V., a biotech start-up developing therapies targeting diabetes, MASH, and obesity;
InnoSer, a preclinical contract research organization (CRO) supporting translational research.

The project reflects the strength of the Leiden Bio Science Park ecosystem in enabling cross-sector collaboration between applied research, biotech innovation, and preclinical development.
