Join the search! This spring from May 1 to June 30
Which species of plants, animals and fungi live in and around the city? The municipalities of Leiden, Leiderdorp, Oegstgeest and Katwijk are joining forces to spot species and map urban nature. Residents and scientists count every spider, snail, mushroom or dandelion they come across during Expeditie Stadsnatuur.
By mapping nature together, we can see which actions make your environment greener and more biodiverse, and what needs protection.
How to participate
In four simple steps, you can contribute to the largest biodiversity survey the Leiden region has ever seen.
- Download the Obsidentify app: Free on iOS and Android. Create an account and you’re ready to go.
- Head outside: Visit a park, garden, canal or square in Leiden, Leiderdorp, Katwijk or Oegstgeest, your neighbourhood counts!
- Photograph and identify: Take a photo of a plant, animal or fungus. Obsidentify helps you identify it right away. Not sure? The community is there to help.
- Share your observation: Every submitted observation counts toward the 2,600 species. Together we make a difference!
