Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council Visit

Leiden Bio Science Park (LBSP) welcomed a distinguished delegation from Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) on April 17th, marking a dynamic morning of cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and shared ambition in the field of healthcare innovation and data-driven science.

Hosted at the Plus Ultra building, the visit featured a lively lineup of presentations and discussions aimed at strengthening ties between Taiwanese research institutions and the growing biotech and medtech ecosystem of Leiden.

Esther Peters, Director of Leiden Bio Science Park, opened the session with a warm welcome presentation, setting the tone for the following talks.

A highlight of the event was the presentation by Dr. Kun-Hui Chen, Executive Director of Taiwan’s Smart Healthcare Committee and a leading orthopedic specialist. Dr. Chen shared insights into Taiwan’s applications of artificial intelligence in the medical industry, offering a glance into a future where diagnostics, patient care, and treatment personalization are all optimized through technology.

Three companies from the LBSP ecosystem- Leven Vision, Medis Medical Imaging, and Biotactical showcased their work in advanced therapies, AI, and early diagnostic tools. Presenting everything from smart imaging technologies to data-driven approaches in drug development, the speakers highlighted the rapid growth and innovation within the Dutch biotech and medtech ecosystem.

The Taiwanese delegation, included prominent academics, government leaders, and innovation advisors. Their curiosity, insightful questions, and collaborative spirit energized the session and reflected a strong mutual interest in building bridges between science communities.

This visit not only deepened mutual understanding but also laid the groundwork for future partnerships between Taiwan and the Netherlands in life sciences and health technology. As ideas continue to flow across borders, both regions stand to benefit from shared expertise, innovation, and a united vision for smarter, more connected healthcare.
