Looking for something thoughtful to tune into this summer? Biopolis – Into the Microbiome is a new science podcast blending documentary storytelling with fiction to explore the microscopic ecosystems that shape human health. Produced by Michiel van Poelgeest in collaboration with the Max Delbrück Center, the five-part series launched in June 2025 and is already sparking conversations across the life sciences community.

The podcast follows fictional scientist Minerva Thalyss as she travels through metaphorical microbial worlds, guided by real-life insights from microbiome researcher Dr. Theda Bartolomaeus. Episodes tackle topics like gut health, microbial resistance, and the unseen interactions between bacteria, humans, and the environment. The format makes the science accessible while keeping the content grounded in real research and expert interviews.

For those working in biotech, pharma, or public health, Biopolis offers a fresh way to revisit familiar themes and rethink how we communicate scientific complexity. It is ideal for professionals who want to stay connected to the societal impact of their work without staring at another screen.
