Biotech start-up Bionomic from Oegstgeest (South Holland) won the Innovation Promise Award on Friday during the twentieth edition of the announcement of the KVK Innovation Top 100 at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, in the category Agriculture, Infrastructure and Water. The young company specializes in using smart biotechnology to develop resilient agricultural crops.
The Innovation Promise Award is a new prize created to recognize start-ups that do not yet have a proven revenue model, but do offer a highly promising innovation. Bionomic is a biotech start-up that deploys molecular solutions against plant diseases.
According to the company, its focus is on researching natural antimicrobial compounds derived from bacteria and fungi. “These substances provide effective and targeted protection against plant diseases, while having minimal impact on the environment and biodiversity,” Bionomic explains.
With support from the Rabobank Impact Fund, Bionomic is currently working on developing a biofungicide against Fusarium oxysporum, collaborating with growers to meet their specific needs and requirements.
The biofungicide is now ready for real-world application. In addition, another biofungicide and a bioinsecticide are being researched. The company is not only developing crop protection products, but also detection methods.
