But he was far more innovative than that, developing inventions ranging from compasses to rapid transmitters. Rijksmuseum Boerhaave curator Bart Grob will tell you about some of his lesser-known work and it’s impact. Philips – Manon van Raak Philips is widely recognized for consumer products such as televisions and coffee makers. Beyond these familiar devices, the company also plays a major role in developing innovative technologies and solutions for life sciences and healthcare. Inito Cell – Devrim Pesen Okvur Inito Cell develops multifunctional organ-on-a-chip devices for drug discovery and diagnostics. These systems closely replicate real human biological conditions, allowing researchers to evaluate both the effectiveness and potential side effects of new treatments. StemxBio – Elena Naumovska StemXBio focuses on creating so-called “mini-pancreases”: advanced three-dimensional pancreatic microtissues. These human-relevant, animal-free models are designed to improve diabetes drug discovery by delivering faster and more reliable results. LUMC PRISM – Bob Hamans The LUMC developed PRISM (PancReatic Islet Separation Method), a tool which allows the automated isolation of insulin-producing beta cells from donor pancreases. As a result, beta-cell replacement therapy becomes safer, more efficient, and more widely accessible for patients with severe type 1 diabetes.
