Speakers

Gerard van Westen has over 20 years of experience in computational drug discovery and machine learning. He obtained his PhD at Leiden University sponsored by Janssen Pharmaceutica in multi-target machine learning models. Subsequently he completed a postdoc at the EBI in Cambridge (UK) in the ChEMBL group under supervision of John Overington.

After, he worked in multiple academic and PPS consortia (including the 750-million-euro National Growth Fund project Oncode Accelerator). In 2023 he received the Royal Dutch Chemical Society Gold medal and in 2024 was invited to present at the Royal palace in Amsterdam for His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima.

Thomas Dohmen is director of the AI Collaboration Center, Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) & Business Director of the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI).
