Starting a Life Sciences business is an exciting and challenging endeavour. You have a great idea, a solid business plan, and the drive to make it happen. Understanding accounting and financial concepts are essential for understanding company performance and diagnose any problems you may have. Even though you may not do any accounting or financial management yourself, this one-day course will help you understand everything you need to gain confidence in this subject and provide you with the tools and knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions.

Participants are asked to share their learning goals and topics. Based on this input the program of this XL Expert Class will be adapted if necessary. All participants will get course material (digital and manual).

This Expert Class will be taught by Richard Take, Director Bureau Kees Horden. Bureau Kees Horden offers professionals a learning stage where insight into financial management is created in a special way.

• The financial (accounting) translation of investments, financing and operational events to the income statement, cash flow statement and balance sheet; how does it work?
• Understanding jargon
• What comes where in an annual account?
• What is the essential difference between results and real money (cash flow)?
• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; why and what to do with?

Course – Part IIFinancial management

• Liquidity management: the liquidity forecast
• Planning and control: turnover/ opex/ EBITDA/EBIT
• Working capital management: managing the cash conversion cycle
• How do you financially justify an investment?

Course – Part IIIFinancial management

• Building a cash flow forecast
• Quantifying risk
• The ‘optimal’ asset mix (funding)
• Steering for: profitability, solvency and liquidity (financial health)
• Valuation issues
