LED3 Lecture

The LED3 community is pleased to announce that Professor Edward Tate (Imperial College London) will give the next LED3 lecture.

Professor Tate holds the GSK Chair in Chemical Biology at Imperial College London and is a Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute. He is a Fellow of the Royal Societies of Chemistry (FRSC) and of Biology (FRSB), and the awardee of the 2022 Cancer Research UK Programme Award and 2024 RSC Horizon Prize, among numerous other accolades. Prof. Tate also sits on the advisory board of multiple international research institutes and is the academic founder of several biotech companies, including Myricx Bio and Siftr Bio.

Prof. Tate’s research group uses chemical biology to pioneer new drug discovery approaches that target post-translational modifications, notable lipidation (Nat Commun, 2014), and intractable proteins such as deubiquitinase enzymes (J Am Chem Soc, 2020). His interdisciplinary approaches uses of combination of chemical genetics and proteomics platforms, synthetic chemistry, and various screening technologies. Recent highlights include the development of new strategies to induce protein degradation (J Am Chem Soc, 2025), map post-translation modifications (Nature Biotechnol, 2024), and the development of activity-based probes (Angew Chemie, 2023).

If you would like to meet Prof. Tate during his visit, he will be available on Friday 23rd (the day after LED3 seminar). Students and postdocs are also welcome to meet Prof. Tate during lunch on Friday. Please contact Madeline Kavanagh (m.e.kavanagh@lic.leidenuniv.nl) if you would like to meet with Ed or attend lunch. There will also be an opportunity to meet Prof. Tate informally over drinks after the seminar.
