At the Leiden Bio Science Park, some organisations manage to find individual solutions for their energy and grid congestion challenges. That is impressive – but it does not solve the wider issue across the park. On the contrary: without coordination, a race for scarce grid capacity emerges, which mainly affects smaller parties and puts pressure on the overall attractiveness of the area.
Grid congestion is no longer an individual issue, but a collective challenge that directly affects security of supply, room for growth and the business climate at the LBSP. Business parks that do not address this jointly are demonstrably falling behind: they have less scope to invest in sustainability, face delayed projects and become less attractive locations for new companies.
We therefore warmly invite you to a focused working session on Thursday 16 April. During this meeting, we will explore how we can move from a collection of individual measures to a joint energy hub and LBSP energy cooperative: a structure in which larger and smaller parties pool their strengths, use capacity more intelligently and speak with one voice towards the grid operator and public authorities. Research shows that such energy hubs not only create more room on the existing grid, but also enable additional CO₂ reductions and structurally strengthen the position of a park like the Leiden Bio Science Park
In a compact programme of approximately two hours, experts will share the latest developments on grid congestion, new legislation and energy hubs, several organisations on the park will present how they are currently dealing with these challenges, and we will discuss the concept for an LBSP energy cooperative.
We also offer organisations the opportunity to give a brief pitch about an initiative within their own organisation related to energy, flexibility or grid congestion; if you are interested, please indicate this when you register or in your reply to this email.
We will conclude with the key question: who would like to participate, and in what way – as a member, as a driving force or as a (future) board member?
Afterwards, you are very welcome to join the monthly Life Science Café for drinks and further discussion.
