Open Day Sphere of Biodiversity

Front grounds of Leiden University of Applied Sciences

Come see, discover and listen to stories about biodiversity!

This colorful outdoor artwork was painted by Rafael Martig, artist and biologist. The Sphere symbolizes how important soil life is for biodiversity.

This outdoor artwork shows Leiden as a City of Discoveries. Walking around the Sphere, you see the Bio Science Park, recognize the city of Leiden and the nearby bulb region. Through live painting in Het Gebouw, Hogeschool Leiden and the Hortus botanicus Leiden, thousands of people have already been able to follow the creation process. Even better, they could even make suggestions, making the sphere a real Leiden work of art for and by residents, students and researchers.

Moreover, this work of art shows the results of DNA research into soil life in Leiden and its surroundings. Discover this for yourself by looking closely, but of course you can also just ask today. Be surprised by fun research facts such as the positive influence of nature on language use of young children.

Both the artist and DNA researchers will be present.

If you feel like it, you can participate in a small research activity. The Sphere of Biodiversity and public activities are an initiative of DNA in the Picture.

The activity is continuous from 10:00-15:00, registration is not necessary.
