TechTalk: MedTech – January 2026

How is MedTech shaping the future of healthcare? From advanced imaging systems to innovative solutions in chronic care, MedTech is transforming how we diagnose, treat, and improve patient outcomes. In this special edition of TechTalk, in collaboration with Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, we’ll explore breakthroughs in device development, digital health, and other tech-based innovations that are improving patient care. Join us for a thought-provoking discussion on innovative approaches and practical applications, and gain insights from leading experts from the Leiden Bio Science Park.

Programme:

15:00 – Doors Open

15:30 – Start of Program

The speaker list will be as follows:

Conservator Boerhaave – Bart Grob
Nobel Prize winner Willem Einthoven is best known as the founder of cardiology. But he was far more innovative than that, developing inventions ranging from compasses to rapid transmitters. Rijksmuseum Boerhaave curator Bart Grob will tell you about some of his lesser-known work and it’s impact.

Philips – Manon van Raak
Philips is widely recognized for consumer products such as televisions and coffee makers. Beyond these familiar devices, the company also plays a major role in developing innovative technologies and solutions for life sciences and healthcare.

Inito Cell – Devrim Pesen Okvur
Inito Cell develops multifunctional organ-on-a-chip devices for drug discovery and diagnostics. These systems closely replicate real human biological conditions, allowing researchers to evaluate both the effectiveness and potential side effects of new treatments.

StemxBio – Elena Naumovska
StemXBio focuses on creating so-called “mini-pancreases”: advanced three-dimensional pancreatic microtissues. These human-relevant, animal-free models are designed to improve diabetes drug discovery by delivering faster and more reliable results.

LUMC PRISM – Bob Hamans
The LUMC developed PRISM (PancReatic Islet Separation Method), a tool which allows the automated isolation of insulin-producing beta cells from donor pancreases. As a result, beta-cell replacement therapy becomes safer, more efficient, and more widely accessible for patients with severe type 1 diabetes.
